What is Hydrogen Therapy

You may not have heard much about the healing effects of molecular hydrogen (H2 gas) but it’s been shown by medical research to be beneficial for major illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, diabetes, osteoporosis, chronic inflammation, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and others. (See study here).

Some have even called Hydrogen Therapy the Fountain of Youth because as well as helping with many illnesses it has been shown to slow down the aging process. (See story here).

Hydrogen achieves this because it helps lower a person’s oxidative stress and inflammation – both of which can be at the root of many diseases. A 2010 quality review article on molecular hydrogen, published in Free Radical Research, stated:

“It is not an overstatement to say that hydrogen’s impact on therapeutic and preventative medicine could be enormous in the future.”

Since this article appeared, over 400 additional articles have been published substantiating this declaration. Currently, about 150 different disease models have been studied in which molecular hydrogen appears to exert a large beneficial effect. (See study here).

What is Hydrogen Therapy?

The idea of using a gas for therapy is not new. For example, ozone is used as a therapy worldwide (see our story here on Ozone Therapy). So is xenon (see our story here on Xenon Therapy) and there are other gases gaining in popularity for their therapeutic effects (See our story here on Medical Gas Therapies).

Owing to its great efficacy and lack of adverse effects, H2 has shown promising potential for medical use against many diseases, as reported here on the website, ResearchGate.

Is Hydrogen Therapy Safe?

Hydrogen is naturally produced in our bodies by intestinal flora upon digestion of fibre-rich food. Many studies of hydrogen have demonstrated its high safety profile. This element is very natural to our bodies and when Hydrogen Therapy is administered by fully trained medical staff, it is entirely safe.

Disclaimer: In Australia, some of the therapies offered at the Ozone Clinic are not officially recognised as a part of mainstream medical practice. These therapies are known as complementary therapies and are considered to be useful as an additional treatment to those offered by your medical practitioner. The Ozone Clinic and its personnel are fully trained in the application of these complementary therapies but they’re not registered medical practitioners and are considered to be complementary therapists.
